"Spontaneous Combustion"

I tell people all the time that this painting is probably more like my personality than any others I have done! This piece was also inspired by a trip to Washington state. I was travelling down a street when I saw these cool looking purple poppies growing in someone's front yard. I had to see them up close, because I had never seen anything like them before. The petals looked like they were shredded, I took several photos and picked one to study for awhile. A short time later, while I was still in Seattle, I met a man who commissioned a large floral painting to hang above the fireplace in his living room, he wanted it to be reminiscent of Georgia O'Keefe's work and done in the red tones. I knew immediately what I was going to do! I used the purple poppy as my model and made it bright Cadmium Red with smidgens of orange and crimson. I love this painting!!!
